The Chequers will be formally and fully re-opening on 7th March 2020, with an official launch night, to include food, live music and a fully stocked bar.
In the meantime, the pub will open its doors from 15th Feb, with a limited bar offering and no food (due to the ongoing work required to regenerate the cellar and kitchen). There have also been other significant refurbishments to get the pub back to a state fit to open.
Our community partnership steering group (PCP) has met with Mike, our new landlord and we’re delighted to support him in getting the pub up and running. Mike is an experienced and credible landlord who shares our vision and aims. He’s passionate about making The Chequers a successful, happy village pub and an active community hub. Mike is looking to deliver a simple and traditional village pub offering; good beers, simple home-cooked pub grub, along with quiz nights, live music, bingo nights etc. We will be helping him and advertising all pub news on our website, Facebook site and Twitter account.
The current owners still retain the Freehold but the pub has been leased in the short-term. It is still the intention of the PCP to progress the bid for community ownership and issue shares to make this a reality in the near future. We hope that Mike will remain on–board and become the permanent manager. Mike has vast experience over many decades in the industry and is keen to see The Chequers brought into community ownership having worked with many community pubs over the years.
Please continue to check our website and social media to read our strategy document and share offer documents. We are still working to secure a significant grant from The Plunkett Foundation, which will complement the money we plan to raise from community shares. Our aim is to launch the Community Share Offer in March, as the pub fully re-opens.
In the meantime we look forward to supporting Mike get the pub re-opened and trust that the village will do the same!
